I have no idea about mac, but I would be buying games off steam as they would have been tested to work on the mac. Hope that helps.

All that error means is that the game or what ever is meant for earlier OS software .. so snow leopard , mountain lion , mavricks wont work

seems like you will need a machine that runs OS9..

Have aquick read of this, doesn't seem like it. Not easily anyway.

Edit - Its a shame Apple dropped Classic (OS9) support in leopard.

If you wanna go through a lot of trouble you can set up a windows 7 "VM" on your Mac which you can play windows games through

Have you tried quake live?

Never tried this myself, as I don't bother with Mac, but you may have some success with it:

Were I in your position, I'd take the time to setup a Windows 7 dual-boot or a VM using Parallels 7 or whatever, but that's me. A stitch in time saves 9 Kemp. Once you have an easily accessible copy of Windows, you can really just install whatever you like on a whim, be it old games or freeware apps.

Installing a VM or even doing bootcamp to windows is a piece of piss.

if you can install windows on a PC you can do either of these easily. its by no means 'a lot' of work.

quake would run fine on a windows VM.
