yesssss this is relevant to my interests.....

stumbled upon it by chance a month or two ago, it sure does look interesting, what i don't understand, does he not want a big name developer to back him? or he does, but no one has come to the table? If anyone, CCP should get in on this, as EVE online is the most immersive and in my opinion, the best MMO style game out currently.

I do know he did a community fundraiser to help him, he initially was hoping for 2 million to help develop, and i think if i recall he is up around 10-12 million donated so far.

a bit of both

he would like a Developer but no one would take it on with his demands as he has had the usual developer thing where they push the release even tho it isn't done and is what happened with freelancer and Microsoft

so he went with crowd funding and private investors and they set a goal to fund for him to have the community raise $2mil to prove that there was community interest and it now at Raised: $9,578,617 and is planning to make it 100% crowd funded as then everything gets put into the game and nothing has to be payed back to investors

Is there an ETA on this? The video's seem fairly fleshed out but I can't seem to find an ETA on his website or forum, mind you I didn't dig too deep in the forums.

It has been ages since I looked into it, but from what I remember I think it is something like single player missions next year, with the multiplayer aspects coming a while after that.

However like i said its been a while since i read up about it so things may have changed since then

All I see is him talking about a deadline after the pledge amount that was 2 years, but I can't find a start date to know the end date.

Buy yeah, seems like the game will be released in installments,

I would expect to see an Alpha release of some sort late this year or early next.

end date after initial pledge is nov 2014 game will be released as 1.0 then unless its not ready and chris wont release but may be released early if all goes well

alpha components will be released this month to next month and is a true alpha and beta unlike some games that call a demo an alpha or beta and in the alpha it will just be testing sections of the game so dont expect a working game if you test

first release is testing the garage system and how it works

second is dog fighting sim (which could be alot of fun) testing how each ships moves and handles combat in just open space

This guy made Wing Commander, Privateer and Freelancer. He gets my money no questions asked.

Anybody know of the crowd funding gives the option of a pre order?

almost all include the final game and alpha and beta access + a ship and if you get before the new site is launched you will get lifetime insurance on that ship

All packages here http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen/

And with the first point I agree and have put in $500

I don't know if it will cover the full cost with exception to download only.

What is the plan for import taxes on the finished game and physical goods?

Since this is a fundraising campaign only a portion of your pledge will be allocable to the value of the physical goods shipped to you. We will determine this value on the basis of the prices we would charge for those physical items outside of a fundraising campaign and comparable to similar transactions in the marketplace. This reduced value will be stated on a pro-forma invoice accompanying the shipment, and this is usually the value on which any import duties and import VAT will be computed by the authorities upon actual shipment. There are exempted amounts depending on the import country. For example, in the EU shipments under €150 will not be subject to import duties, and shipments under €22.50 will not incur any import VAT. In addition, only VAT amounts over €10 are collected, so that effectively all shipments under a value of €50 will be free.

A particular situation exists with respect to the USB stick. If the stick will be loaded with your digital game and other items then the value of those digital items will be considered when determining the value of the stick for importation purposes. Again, this value would not be your pledge amount but the price that we would charge outside the fundraising campaign for those digital items.

In order to avoid taxation on those digital game items we will offer a convenient download button directly on your MyAccount page, together with the option to receive the USB stick empty. Alternatively, if you wish to receive the USB stick fully loaded with the items then the value of those digital items will be included in the pro-forma invoice.

There are different levels to which you can buy.

Some give download only whilst others give you a package that is mailed to you. Have a look at the packages on the right side.

insurance is like car insurance

You can go without but if your ship gets destroyed you have to buy a new one or with insurance it is covered and you get a replacement

From Chris' recent interview with Forbes.

http://viewrz.com/video/release-sche...ject-to-change

  • June 2013: new website
  • August 2013: Hanger module (your purchased ships will be inside your hanger. Larger ships will have larger hangers. You will be able to view the inside and outside of your ships) alpha
  • End of December 2013: Dog fighting module (a MOBA-like experience; customize your ship from your hanger) alpha
  • January - June 2014: plant side module (social MMO like experience: go into a bar; talk to players; buy, sell, upgrade your ship) alpha
  • July - September 2014: Squadron 42 module (single player game) alpha
  • October - December 2014: Beta test
  • January - June 2015: Release!

Sounds similar to the EVE system then, although from what I remember of EVE you get a cash payout equivalent to however much you insured the ship for, or something like that.

They've hit $16 mil now.

Also, the hanger module will go live in the next few days. For people who have backed the game, you will be able to walk around the hanger and take a look at the ships you have bought

Bumping this thread up for anyone who hasnt been following the development, the dogfighting module (delayed for around 6 months and now called Arena Commander) is being uploaded to their distribution servers right now. So hopefully it will be available for download in the next few hours and playable tonight.

The way its being rolled out is that anyone who has access to it will get the single player game modes, and then the multiplayer will be rolled out according by citizen number, which basically equates to being in order of when people registered for the game. They havent given a real indication of how long it will take for the multiplayer to be rolled out, but hopefully it will be in the next week or 2.

I ended up signing up to this game about a month ago and have been playing it quite a bit since.

I now have myself a Super Hornet and also a Vanguard (waiting for it to be hangar ready).

I have joined an Australian organization called the Burned Renegades. They have a number of original backers in their midst who got in early on the trading market which has since been heavily suppressed by CIG. Before it got discouraged these guys were able to trade up to acquire 2 Idris frigates, 3 Retaliator heavy bombers, a stack of Super Hornets, a few Gladiators as well as many other ships.

When this game releases they are going to need lots of crew members for their ships or escort fighters if you have your own. PM me if you want to join.

I have been practicing in the Arena Commander module. My controller of choice is a joystick in my left hand and mouse in my right. I fly with the stick and aim with the mouse, took some practice but the extra maneuverability and aiming arc is well worth it.

Anybody else getting into Arena Commander?

Listen to the recruiter! :P

I've also got a Super Hornet which i got in a package in 2013.

Arena Commander is awesome, and already addictive.

I'm still learning the controls in a configuration like Chappy, but still having trouble with aiming/shooting.

Considering it's still Alpha, it's reasonable to think that the controls and systems have still got some ironing out to do, or at least a good calibration tool.
