Current rig upgrades

Recommended Posts

So im thinking of chucking a little extra tax return dollars at my current rig for some upgrades.

current rig:

CPU: Intel Core i5 3470

Mobo: Asrock B75 Pro3-M

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws-X 16G Kit(8Gx2) DDR3 1600 F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL

GPU: Gigabyte 2GB 7870 PCI-E VGA Card

HDD: Seagate 3.5" Barracuda 1TB ST31000DM003 SATA3 7200RPM 64MB HDD

PSU: Thermaltake LitePower 600Watt

don't want to spend more than $300, what would you guys put that into?

should i get a second 7870 to run crossfire?

i7?

Used for mostly gaming, and some web dev

Any graphic intensive games would benefit from the extra video card, but you would need to make sure you have your cooling in order and your power supply might need to be replaced.

That looks like a pretty solid rig to me, maybe you could get an SSD to speed up boot and application times

yeh thinking of doing that now, but within the budget might get a plexor 256gb unit, pretty sure they come in under $300 with some change for bling/fans etc...

If you go down the path of another GPU - you will need another PSU to supply the right amount of power.

Also, and SSD as listed will help increase boot/loading times of the PC.

Getting another 7870 would improve the graphics in a huge way - but you sacrifice power usage and will blow the 300 budget and you will need another PSU.

I am thinking about an upgrade of my single GTX570 with another 570 - but im just thinking of going down the GTX 660/670 path.
